1. Overview
BetterGA (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is a tool that lets you view your Google Analytics 4 data through a simplified dashboard. We take your privacy seriously and only collect what is strictly necessary to provide the service.
2. Information We Collect
- Google account information — your name and email address, obtained via Google OAuth sign-in.
- Google OAuth tokens — access and refresh tokens required to query the Google Analytics Data API and Admin API on your behalf. These are stored encrypted and never shared.
- GA4 property identifiers — the property IDs you connect to your workspace.
- Cached analytics reports — report results fetched from Google Analytics are temporarily cached (up to 1 hour) to reduce API calls. This data is never sold or shared.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you and maintain your session.
- To fetch and display your Google Analytics data on your behalf.
- To associate your GA4 properties with your workspace.
We do not sell your data or share it with third parties beyond what is necessary to operate the service. Third-party services we use:
- Convex — database hosting for your account and workspace data.
- Google Analytics (gtag.js) — we use Google Analytics on our own website to understand how visitors discover and use BetterGA. This collects standard usage data (pages visited, session duration, referrer). This is entirely separate from your GA4 data — we never mix the two. You can opt out via Google's opt-out browser add-on.
4. Google API Data Usage
BetterGA's use of data received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We only request the minimum OAuth scopes needed:
analytics.readonly — to read your analytics reports.analytics — to list your GA4 accounts, properties, and data streams.
5. Cookies and Tracking
BetterGA uses cookies for two purposes:
- Session cookies — to keep you signed in to the application.
- Google Analytics cookies — our marketing website uses Google Analytics to measure traffic. These cookies (e.g.
_ga, _ga_*) are set by Google and governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Data Retention
Cached report data is automatically deleted after 1 hour. Your account and workspace data is retained as long as you have an account. You can delete your data at any time by contacting us.
7. Security
OAuth tokens are stored in a secured database (Convex) and are only used server-side. Tokens are never exposed to the browser or included in client-side code.
